It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Eric Matchim at the age of 64 years old. Gary passed away on February 19, 2024, in Fort McMurray, AB after a battle with cancer.

Gary was born in Corner Brook, NL to Eric and Cora on February 9th, 1960. He worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator at Suncor for 40 years and loved his career and coworkers. He had many hobbies which included: quadding, playing guitar, riding his motorcycle, sledding, and camping with his trailer that he and Jocelyn lovingly renovated. He also loved spending time with his two Chinese Crested Dogs, Atom, and Wren. He doted on them, and their never-ending companionship helped Gary during difficult times.

Gary is survived by his wife of 18 years; Jocelyn Matchim, children; Ryan, Jason, Ashdon, and Payton, grandchildren; Lucas, Jackson, and Chloe, siblings; Beverly, Newman (Shirley), Calvin (Rita), Byron (Barb), Sharon (Dion), Pamela (Bill), Bob (Tara), Brian Paul (Benny, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Gary was predeceased by his parents, Eric and Cora; and his daughter Sapphire.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the 3rd floor of the Northern Lights Hospital in Fort McMurray for all the support they have received, and the care they gave Gary.
