Lawrence Larry Joseph Roy Obituary

With Heavy Hearts we announce that our father Lawrence Larry Roy or as most of us knew him Tumbleweed passed away on July 27, 2024. At the age of 68, in his home in Anzac.

Larry leaves behind his Daughters Crystal Simpson (Chris Quinlin), Alice Roy, Amber Roy-Lemaigre (Colt Fontaine), and his Son Kurri Fontaine.

His cherished grandchildren, Westin, Aria, Sebashton, and Emile

Larry was born to William and Alice in Saskatchewan. When we were children, our Dad only told us the story of where he was born on; “a reserve so small, along a river in Saskatchewan, so small it doesn’t even have a name, just numbers” We only recently found out it was in a place still not on a map but within a hamlet called Chitek in Saskatchewan near Chitek Lake. Our dad celebrated and spoke of his Metis heritage, always gifting his children with Metis décor, aboriginal art handmade by him, as well as ceremonial items and Jewelry.

Larry moved to Fort McMurray many years ago where he made Fort McMurray and Anzac his home. He made many friends at the poker table and in the communities that he called family, had children that he always kept in touch with and even played with Grandchildren any chance given.

Larry had this tough look and tone, when it came to his children, grandchildren and pets he was the softest guy. He finally settled in Anzac AB where he would be visited all day by friends and family while enjoying the beautiful views around his home, taking his dog Zazoo for walks looking for traditional medicines.

Larry “Tumbleweed” will be honored in a traditional celebration of life on August 4th, 2024. Visiting hours are from 9am – 8 pm, with the ceremony at 5:00 pm with an Elders prayer and Drumming, and feast to follow at Robert Anderson Funeral Services, #115 – 190 MacAlpine Cres, Fort McMurray, Ab.

Tumbleweed loved adventures and called many places home; his children will honour him by returning him to Mother Earth by releasing his ashes back to her in a private ceremony.

Tumbleweed will be missed by numerous Family & Friends.
