It is with heavy hearts the family of Joyce Smith announces her passing, unexpectedly and peacefully at home in Fort McMurray, AB on October, 25, 2024.

Beloved wife of John E. Smith for 47 years; always his Billie Sunshine. Cherished Mother of David Smith, Andrew (Jill) Cater-Smith, Roger (Regina) Smith and pre-deceased by son Phillip Smith (2019). Adored Nana of Miaree, Safiya and Krista.

Joyce was born and raised an only child in England. Not one to shy away from adventure, Joyce immigrated to Australia where she and John met and married. They immigrated together to Canada intending to settle in Thunder Bay, ON, but quickly moved on to Fort McMurray AB, where they have spent the last 46 years.

Joyce was a kind and generous soul. Her love was a superpower that few people possess, and her strength was undeniable. She devoted her life to her family, and made everyone feel welcome in her home. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and community. Dancing made her happy. She became fast friends with her line dancing group and the Golden Years Society who will deeply miss her.

A private memorial for the family and cremation have taken place. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to a charity of choice.
