Obituary of Garland Stanley Hillier
Garland was the youngest of 15 children. Born to Laura and Stanley Hillier of St. Lunaire-Griquet, Newfoundland & Labrador. Garland graduated from the Pentecostal Academy. Afterwards, he went on to earn a degree in Business Administration from the College of the North Atlantic in St. Anthony, Newfoundland & Labrador.
He worked most of his early years as a fisherman, which is what he loved. After 20 plus years of living off the ocean, he and his wife Joan moved to Fort McMurray, Alberta to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Upon moving to Fort McMurray in June 2005, Garland gained employment as an Equipment Operator for Clean Harbours. With whom he worked for 16 years until his retirement in 2019.
What Garland enjoyed most in life was the laughter and joy he received from being with his friends, family, and especially grandchildren. He was never too busy to tell a story, crack a joke, or be that listening ear that was needed. His sudden passing leaves a void that will forever be felt by his loved ones. Whom he cherished deeply!
Garland is survived by his wife, Joan; three children: Cathy (TJ), Jamie (Cherie), and Jeffrey (Liz); nine grandchildren: Laura (Randy), Jade, Faith, Anna, Alex, Danielle, Ocean, Jewel, Brooklynn; five great-grandchildren: Rashad, Draya, Dominic, Kyzer, and Rio.
A Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Robert Anderson Funeral Services, #115 - 190 MacAlpine Crescent, Fort McMurray, where a Funeral Service will be at 2:00 pm. with Pastor Robert Parmenter officiating. Cremation to follow.
