In Loving Memory of Donald Henry Gallagher Jr.

August 19, 1941 – March 7, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Henry Gallagher Jr., who left us on March 7, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Don passed peacefully in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan.

Born on August 19, 1941, in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Don was the firstborn to Donald Gallagher Sr. and Ellen Bishop (Loutit). Raised in Fort McMurray, Don developed a deep love for the land and rivers that would stay with him throughout his life.

In his early years, Don proudly served in the Canadian Armed Forces for three years, including a deployment to Germany. A dedicated and hardworking man, he later became a proud member of Local 955. His career spanned decades as a heavy equipment operator and Red Seal crane operator. Don’s work took him across British Columbia, Alberta, and the Northwest Territories, where his reputation for precision and excellence was known far and wide.

Don was a perfectionist in everything he did—whether on the job or in his spare time. He found peace on the Athabasca and Clearwater Rivers, often out in his river boat, camping and exploring the places he loved most.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Mary; his brothers Lorrie, Tracey, and Steven; and his sisters Hazel Noseworthy (Jack), Colleen Emberley (George), Carol Yayechnick (Dave), and Dorothy. Don also leaves behind a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will miss him dearly.

Don was predeceased by his father, Donald Gallagher Sr.; his mother, Ellen Bishop (Loutit); and his brother, Andy Flett.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 29th at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Parish, 3 Hospital Street, Fort McMurray. A lunch reception will follow downstairs.

Don fought hard, lived fully, and loved deeply. He will be remembered always.
