With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lawrence Ambrose Harry Laboucane on Thursday, July 3, 2025, in Edmonton, AB.
Lawrence was born to his parents Mary Elizabeth Cardinal & Ambrose Laboucane in Anzac AB May 5 1941.
He was raised on the Willow Lake Trapline & taught the traditional Cree ways of life by his Grandfather, life-long Chief Harry Cardinal. These teachings included hunting, fishing, trapping & speaking High Cree. In fact he was so fluent in Cree he was often called upon to interpret for Elders in Cree in court cases.
Also a proud Métis man, Lawrence served as the President of local Métis Association 121. He was also passionate about rodeos and participated in both bareback bronc riding and steer roping competitions in the NRA.
A talented self-taught musician, Lawrence could play a variety of instruments including the mouth organ, guitar, banjo, ukulele, and fiddle. He always enjoyed a good jam with friends or family.
Lawrence is survived by his spouse Rhoda Laboucane, and children: Lisa Laboucane, Andrea Lorenz, Allan Lorenz, Josie Laboucane; and his siblings: Karen Jensen, Sharon Kreutzer, Shirley Klassen, Frida (Brian) Kuefler, Agnes Jensen, Michael Jensen, Paul Jensen, Kenneth Jensen, William Laboucane, and Josh Laboucane.
He is also remembered by his grandchildren: Dakota Laboucane, Seagun Laboucane, Sarquin Laboucane, Chantal Lorenz, and Renee Laboucane.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ambrose Laboucane and Mary Jensen, and his siblings: Floyd Wood, Nancy Davis Laboucane, Betty Morrison, Eugene Jensen, Harry Jensen, and Gary Jensen.
