Wayne Douglas Duguid Obituary

Wayne Douglas Duguid

September 26, 1949 – July 10, 2025

It is with full hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of Wayne Douglas Duguid on July 10, 2025, in a beautiful palliative suite at Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray, Alberta. He died peacefully, surrounded by all four of his children.

Wayne was born in Penticton, British Columbia, and moved early in life to Dunnville, Ontario, where he spent his formative years. A true nomad at heart, Wayne traveled with the wind through many moments of his life, living and working in places all over Ontario, B.C and Alberta before settling in Fort McMurray for his later years.

Wayne was the beloved son of the late Mary Elizabeth and Harry Duguid. Wayne leaves behind his four children: Tara Duguid (Michael Frey) and their children Charlie and Lily; Paul Duguid (Pilar Duguid (née Mero)) and their daughter Isabelle; Randell Duguid; and Logan Duguid (Sam Arsenault) and their children Fearyn and Vyxx. He is survived by his siblings: Carol McLaughlin (Paul Bell), Diane Ottaway (predeceased by her husband Len), and Murray Duguid (Bev Jones), and many nieces and nephews.

As per his wishes, there will be no formal service. Those who wish to honour Wayne’s memory are invited to make a donation to Meals on Wheels Fort McMurray or the Palliative Unit at Northern Lights Regional Health Centre. The family warmly invites anyone who knew Wayne to share a story or memory in his honor.

A Tribute to Wayne:

A legend. The King of Fun. The Garage Father. A man who lived big, loved hard, and made sure every room he entered got a little louder and a whole lot more fun.

Wayne was the kind of guy people tell stories about — mostly because he gave them so many good ones. He didn’t follow anyone’s rules but his own, and the world was more exciting for it. He was a big-time adventurer with a free spirit and a fire in his belly for whatever made him feel most alive — whether that was boating, camping, fishing, or flipping a great deal.

He had a long history of mischief and memory-making — from legendary campfires to guitar singalongs, good drinks, and great company. He got kicked out of more than a few campgrounds over the years, but those nights often became the stories everyone wanted to hear again — and again.

Though he was a pipefitter by trade, he was the definition of a jack of all trades — there was nothing he couldn’t fix, build, or figure out. He worked for many years as a respected foreman, earning deep connections and friendships through skill,  hard work and dedication to his craft.

Wayne was the life of every party, the host with the most, the guy who'd throw a feast with seafood, steak, or a pig roast just to see people smile. In his later years, his garage became a hub for movies (especially war movies and westerns), wheeling and dealing, cold beers, warm chats, classic tunes, and big laughs. From his throne-like leather chair, he held court for friends, tenants, and neighbours alike.

He was also king of the deal — buying, selling, trading, and thrifting were his true love languages, and he passed that torch to every one of his children. He was always on the hunt for the next great deal.

He loved his family with everything he had.  He beamed with pride for his children and adored his grandkids. His spirit will live on through the music, campfires, tools and stories that will outlive us all..

Wayne didn’t just live life — he wrung every drop out of it. A legend, through and through.
