Peter William Hesse Obituary

Peter William Hesse

May 13, 1955 – July 10, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peter William Hesse, aged 70, on July 10, 2025 in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Peter was born on May 13, 1955 in Exeter, Ontario and was a dedicated public servant who spent much of his life in the service of others.

Peter’s career as a Wildland Firefighter began in Ontario, where he honed his skills and passion for the outdoors. His work in fire management eventually led him to northern Alberta, where he became a familiar and respected figure. After several years living in British Columbia, Peter settled in Fort McMurray in the late 1980s, taking on a new role as Forest Ranger. He continued to work tirelessly in his field, returning each summer to fight fires until he became the warehouse manager until retiring in 2015. His love for nature and the environment was mirrored in his everyday life. He was often found in his garage, tinkering and fixing things — always ready to lend a hand and teach his children along the way.

In 1994, Peter met the love of his life, Nancy Ladouceur, and they spent the next 31 years together. In those early years, they shared many adventures, from fishing trips to camping in the vast outdoors they both cherished. Their bond was rooted in love, respect, and an undeniable connection to the world around them.

Peter was a devoted father to his four children: Jonah, Amelia (Adam Harrison), Alexander, and Gabriel. His love for his family knew no bounds, and he dedicated himself fully to raising his children, teaching them not only practical skills but also the importance of kindness, hard work, and humility. He was also a loving son to his mother, Marjorie, and a caring brother to Steve (Brenda) and his nieces and nephews; he will be deeply missed by his family, including his mother-in-law Yvonne, brother-in-law Anthony (Stacey), and many members of the Hesse and Ladouceur families.

Peter was predeceased by his father, Donald; his brother, Paul; his father-in-law, Raymond; his brother-in-law, Richard; and many beloved aunts and uncles.

Those who knew Peter will remember him as a soft-spoken, kind-hearted man, always ready with a smile. He had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. Whether it was spending hours playing board games with his family or telling stories around the dinner table, Peter’s warmth and sense of humor made him a cherished presence. His loyalty, generosity, and love for his family and friends will leave a lasting legacy.

Peter’s passion for the outdoors extended beyond his work and hobbies. His love for animals, especially his dogs, was evident in how they followed him everywhere. They adored him and he loved them in return.

As per Peter’s wishes there will be no formal service, those who wish to honour his memory can make a donation to Lung Cancer Canada.

Peter will be forever missed by those who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the stories he shared, the lessons he imparted, and the memories he created.
