It is with heavy hearts, that the family of Mervin T. Bungay, announces his sudden passing in
Fort McMurray, AB on August 10, 2025, at the age of 57.
Mervin was the definition of the life of the party and brought light to everyone he ever met. For
anyone who met Merv, you felt his presence immediately. He was the kind of man that would
treat you as if he knew you his entire life when he first met you and would make sure you felt
such. Originally from Seal Cove, NL, Mervin also lived in Gaultois, NL, Corner Brook, NL,
Canso, NS, and finally Fort McMurray, AB. The number one priority in his life was spending
time with his five amazing children and ensuring they lived the best life they possibly could. His
famous one liner’s, his elaborate stories, his contagious energy brought endless smiles to
friends and family. He leaves behind a place in so many hearts of those who had the opportunity
to create everlasting memories with Mervin. His work-hard play hard mentality led to 16+
successful years with United Rentals as the Northern Alberta District Manager and allowed him
to give his entire family the life he felt they deserved.
Mervin loved his time at the lake, as not only did it bring together his own family for weekend
adventures it brought together many other lake friends which he also saw as family. A close
second to the lake was his love for sports, a passion that he shared deeply with his two sons
Aaron and Josh and many of his friends along the way. Anyone who met Merv simply never had
a bad time.
Left mourning are his five children Aaron (Edmonton, AB), Joshua, Jacob, and Gabby (Fort
MacMurray, AB) and Rebecca (Toronto, ON). He also leaves five brothers Ross (Brenda) in
Clark’s Beach, NL, Linus (Sueann) & Sandy (Sheila) in Grand Bank, NL, Russ (Rhonda) in
English Hr. West, NL and Campbell (Maddie) in North Carolina, USA as well as many nieces
and nephews.
Mervin was predeceased by his parents, Max and Rita (Loveless) Bungay and his brother,
Wayne.
