John Andrew Dunn Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden death of a loving husband, father,

son, brother and friend on Aug 10, 2025 in Athabasca County, Alberta.


Born on July 19th 1983 in Inverness, N.S John was the son of the late Andrew “ Andy” Dunn and

Arlene Dunn (Phillips) of Margaree Forks, N.S. John grew up in Margaree Forks, he

attended NSCC where he followed in his father's footsteps and became a

Steamfitter/Pipefitter, and shortly after relocated to Fort McMurray for work.


John was a member of Local 682 and then transferred to Local 488 as he began to make Alberta

his permanent home and worked most of his career as a Syncrude employee. It was in

Fort McMurray that he met his loving wife Deanene Dunn ( Rogers ), and where they

began their family having two beautiful children.



John had a very strong love of nature and country life and was fortunate to find his own

piece of this in Athabasca County where he and his wife built a cabin for an escape

from the busy city life. He would go to the cabin to enjoy the peacefulness and loved to

share this with friends also from Cape Breton. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and

sledding trips with some of the many friends from his home town and also the friends

he made along the way. John was a kind and caring person who was always willing to

help out family and friends from Cape Breton to Fort Mac.



John is survived by his mother Arlene Dunn (Phillips); Siblings Andrea Dunn ( Dale

Jenkins) Belle Cote, N.S, Marilyn (John) Andrews N.E Margaree, N.S ; his loving wife

Deanene Dunn (Rogers) Fort McMurray, AB; Children Allena and Andrew Dunn Fort

McMurray, AB; In Laws Maisie and Kevin Rogers, Newfoundland; Brother in-law Kevin

Rogers Fort McMurray AB; Nieces and nephews Sabrina Sanoudakis and Amanda

Elmourne , James, Billy and Bailey Andrews, Makayla and Dylan Jenkins, Carter and

Brady Rogers; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.



Besides his father John was predeceased by his grandparents David and Mary Dunn;

Allena and John Joseph Phillips; and his brother William Tracy Timmons.



Visitation for John will take place at Robert Anderson Funeral Home Fort McMurray AB,

on Saturday August 16, 2025 from 1 pm to 4 pm, and on Thursday August 21st 2025 at

St. Patrick's Parish Hall, North East Margaree N.S from 6pm to 9 pm.


Due to unforseen circumstances, the services in Nova Scotia will be delayed. Further information will be posted as it becomes available.


Donations in memory of John can be made to St Patrick's Parish.
