Linda Wade Obituary

It is with shattered hearts and unimaginable grief that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, partner, aunt, sister and our best friend Linda Fay (Merritt) Wade 74, of Howie Centre/Fort McMurray. In the early morning hours of October 29th, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family, Mom gained her angel wings at her home in Fort McMurray, Alberta after a brief illness. Born February 13th, 1951, in Truro, Nova Scotia, she was the youngest daughter of the late Agnes Merritt.

Mom worked many jobs throughout her life but the one she loved the most was taking care of her family. She was the heart, the rock and the glue of our family. After raising her own kids, she poured the same fierceness, love, and kindness into helping raise all her grandkids, especially Jaxon who he affectionately referred to her as his “Doe”. Family was her greatest treasure, and her deepest wish was to see her loved ones happy. She had a gift for bringing people together and she hosted every occasion with a kitchen party, campfire, or family barbeque. She loved her family breaking out the guitars at the kitchen table, a good game of bingo, and the occasional trip to the casino. After Dad’s passing, Mom tried to split her time as much as she could between her family living in Cape Breton and Fort McMurray and travelled frequently between two. She expressed that her greatest joy in this time was seeing her great grandchildren grow up. She was the light and warmth that made every room feel like home.

She will be forever missed by her daughters; Kathy (Brian) McPhee, Howie Centre, Cindy Wade, Howie Centre, and her sons Michael Wade, Fort McMurray, and Kevin Wade, Howie Centre. Her special daughter-in-law Shannon Young, Fort McMurray, who was a daughter in mom’s eyes and her partner Richard Ramm, Fort McMurray. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Ryleigh (Hunter), Miranda Nicole (Taylor), Jeremy, Jessica (Danny), MJ (Brooke), Jaxon, Luke, and Kailea (Kyle) and her great-grandsons; Cameron, River, Alexander, Archer, and her only great granddaughter Sophialynn. She is also survived by brothers; Jack Merritt and Kenneth Merritt, both of Truro, sister-in-law Beverly Wade of North Sydney, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and her fur baby Maggie Rose.

Besides her mom, Linda is predeceased by her loving husband Hughie, her sister Laverne Stark. Brothers; Bruce Merritt, Jim Merritt. Her stepbrothers Russell Merritt, Lorne Merritt and Bill Merritt. Her father-in-law Michael Wade Sr., her sisters-in-law; Beverly Sollazzo, Carol Merritt, Betty Merritt of Truro and Betty Merritt of Alberta. Her brothers-in-law; Michael Wade, Paul Stark. Nephews; Jimmy Stark, Stephen Merritt, niece Cheryl Merritt and her precious fur baby Lily.

As per Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
