Mary Theresa Marie Barrett Obituary

Mary Theresa Marie Barrett, age 72, passed away on December 13, 2025, unexpectedly but peacefully.

Born on November 17, 1953, to Rita and Patrick Whiffen, Mary grew up in Rushoon, Newfoundland, a place she always held close to her heart. She spent most of her adult life in Fort McMurray, where she built a life filled with laughter, friendship, and love. Though distance separated her from family at times, Mary never let it weaken those bonds — she loved her family deeply and stayed connected always.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Roger Barrett; her cherished daughters, Nicole (Brad) and Lisa; her siblings, Robert Whiffen of Rushoon, Blanche (Wayne) Pitcher of Clarenville, George (Emily) Whiffen of Rushoon, Rita (Randy) Barrett of Swift Current, Doreen (George) Miller of Rushoon, and Clarence Whiffen of Rushoon; her twelve nieces and nephews; and her beloved feline sidekick, Jake. She will also be fondly remembered by her many friends and extended family.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, Rita and Patrick Whiffen, her beloved brother, Patrick “Paddy” Whiffen, and her sister-in-law, Alice Whiffen.

Mary was truly one of a kind — a firecracker in every sense. She was spunky, fun-loving, and known for her wicked sense of humour. She loved to laugh, dance, and enjoy life to the fullest, and she knew exactly how to have a good time. A phenomenal cook, Mary could cook up a storm like no other, especially when it came to her famous jigs dinner. Despite her small stature, she had a hearty appetite that always left people wondering where she put it.

Mary’s laughter, warmth, and larger-than-life personality will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
