It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cyril Joseph Beson, who left us on January 3, 2026, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Surrounded by the love of his family, he faced his final days with the same strength and good humour that defined his life.
Born in Newfoundland on February 9, 1959, Cyril later moved to Northern Alberta with his beloved wife Marie and their two sons, Craig and Cory, where he built a life full of hard work, laughter, and unwavering family devotion. He was the heartbeat of any gathering known far and wide for his endless gift of gab. Cyril could talk to anyone, about anything, and always left people smiling. He loved people, he loved to laugh, and he lived for the moments when the crowd was big, the music was playing, and the drinks were flowing. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Cyril worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He and Marie raised Craig and Cory with love and determination, making sure they were on the hockey rink no matter the weather, the cost, or the hour.
When spring arrived in Alberta, Cyril came alive. Camping was his passion; he couldn’t wait to head down the highway to the camper, staying until the campground gates forced him to pack up for another year. Those long summer nights by the fire, surrounded by family and friends, were his idea of heaven. Music, parties, and good company were his fuel. Whether it was a jam session or a backyard barbecue, Cyril was in the middle of it telling stories, cracking jokes, and making sure everyone had a laugh. His sense of humour was infectious, and he never missed a chance to lighten the mood.
Above all, Cyril adored his grandchildren. He’d light up the moment they walked in the door, always ready with a silly story or a playful tease to keep them smiling. His love for Marie never wavered he loved her until his last breath, and she was his rock through every adventure and challenge. Cyril had simple tastes that brought him great joy: a good feed of fried chicken, fries, and gravy was his ultimate favourite meal, best enjoyed with family around the table.
He leaves behind his cherished wife Marie; his sons Craig (Wanda K) and Cory (Emily); his beloved grandchildren; Chase, Brianne, Alexandria, Dominic, Austin, and Bridget; and a wide circle of friends who will forever remember his booming laugh and open heart. Cyril taught us to work hard, love deeply, laugh often, and never pass up a chance to enjoy life with the people who matter most.
A Celebration of Cyril’s Life will be held at Robert Anderson Funeral Services (115-190 MacAlpine Crescent) in Fort McMurray on January 24th, 2026 at 2 pm.
Rest easy, Cyril. The music’s still playing, and your stories live on in every laugh you left behind.
