Bernard "Bern" Jeremiah Reardon Obituary

Bernard Jeremiah Reardon passed away on January 6, 2026, in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Bern, as he was known to all, was born August 3rd, 1950, in Goose Cove, Newfoundland to his parents Charles Albert and Ellen (Nellie) Aveline Reardon.

After high school Bern attended trade school in St John’s and took marine diesel mechanics where he worked on fishing boats. In 1971 Bern moved to Toronto, Ontario to work in factories, it was here in 1972 that he met the love of his life, Madonna McKenna. The two were wed in Goose Cove on August 12th, 1974. While living in Ontario they welcomed their first son, Jason Bernard Reardon on February 9th, 1982. The young family decided to move back to Goose Cove where Bern worked in the fisheries with his brothers Mike and Pius until it closed. After the fisheries closed, Bern worked away in Port Hardy, BC where he fished. Bern went back to college in St Anthony to take carpentry and worked away in Ontario building houses. While living in Goose Cove they welcomed their second son, Robert Charles Reardon on August 23rd, 1989. In 2003 Bern decided to move his family to Fort McMurray where his brother Pius was already living and working. It was here Bern worked with Simm’s Construction, Casman and Guthrie, from which he retired in 2016.

Bern was an active member of the NAFC and the Golden Years Society. Bern felt a deep sense of pride in his boys and everything they had accomplished. Bern’s favourite thing to do was spending time with his beautiful granddaughters. He adored his three granddaughters and would take them skating, ice fishing, swimming, to the shopping mall, hockey games and the Legion and everywhere in between. He was the greatest Pop around! Bern was always up for a chat, he loved to play crib, he enjoyed hockey and fishing, he loved his Swiss Chalet and Jiggs dinner, taking naps and spending time with family and friends.

Left to mourn, his beloved wife Madonna and his sons Jason and Robert. His daughters-in-law, Sereana and Sheena and the loves of his life, his beautiful granddaughters Jasmine, Madelean and Talei. Bern is also survived by his siblings Elizabeth (Minnie), Marie, Dominic (Gerlinde), Pius (Anne) and Greg (Bertha), in-laws Bertha and Luba

Bern is predeceased by his parents, his brothers Michael and Albert Reardon and brother-in-law, Gerald Shelley and Joseph Troy.

Bern’s warmth, kind heart, and ever-present smile left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His hugs were legendary, his laughter contagious, and his love for family and friends unwavering. He will be forever cherished and deeply missed.
