It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Marilyn Ethel Mary Coburn nee: Malone, on Thursday January 8, 2026, in Fort McMurray, AB.
Marilyn was born in the summer of 1956 to her parents Antoinette and Edward Malone in Pembroke Ontario. She spent most of her life in Ontario. Following her Dad’s passing, she became a main caretaker of the home, helping her Mom with day-to-day housework, gaining a sense of responsibility at a young age.
Even with her newfound responsibilities she made time for new and exciting adventures when they’d come her way. This openness to exploring new experiences led her to the love of her life, Sidney Coburn. The two met on a blind date during New Years celebrations. After a few years of dating the two married and had their son, Tim Coburn.
Marilyn was very creative. She loved knitting and sewing. Her love of knitting mixed with her generous soul, she began donating her creations. She’d knit all kinds of things, like pneumonia vests for anyone in need at the hospital, especially babies. Her knitting donations traveled far and wide, often leaving to other countries to help others in need around the world.
Her adventurous spirit stuck with her her whole life. She was always ready for the next big thing, and was unafraid to take risks. One of her favorite thrills was the Lottery. Often Lotto Max or 649, though she had a fair few scratchers laying around too. If you visited her home, strewn about you’d find slips of paper with seemingly random numbers…or the next big winning numbers?
Adventure and the outdoors often go hand in hand, Marilyn was no exception to this. She loved to camp and be in nature. She’d often go with her Son, Tim, and his wife, Maryanne, or her cousins, Andrea and Charles. Her camping adventures started off in a tent, later in life she upgraded to a trailer…. then back to a tent, then up to a pop-up trailer! If she was not hanging out by the campfire, she was with everyone out on the lake fishing.
Marilyn was always happy and smiling. She was a free spirit who loved living life. She adored her family, treasured her friends and was kind to every stranger she met. All those who knew her will miss her deeply. She will be forever loved and never forgotten.
She is survived by her Siblings, Dennis and Ambrose; Son, Tim (Maryanne); Grandson, Merrick; Cousin, Charles (Andrea), as well as many extended family members and friends.
She was predeceased by her Parents, Edward Malone and Antoinette Malone nee: Audette; Sister, Bernadette; Husband, Sidney Coburn; and her beloved cat, Midnight.
