Helen Higdon (Helen Williamson Carrothers Elliot Higdon), aged 87 years, died peacefully on Friday February 06, 2026, surrounded by family at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray, Alberta, following a brief illness.

Helen was born on March 05, 1938, in Kincardine, Scotland. Helen married Irvin Higdon, the love of her life, August 29, 1959.  Helen and Irv moved to Fort McMurray in 1969 where Irv worked for GCOS (Suncor).  Helen worked at Miskinaw Golf Club for many years while raising her 4 boys. 

Helen is survived by her sons, Tom (Karen), Brad (Deb), and Gus (Jodi); her 9 grandchildren, T.J. (Terri), Amber (Brad), Alexander, Riley, Haley, John, Dale; and 10 great grandchildren, Kaden, Shea-lynn, Mya, Braxton, Jace, Naithan, Markus, Linden, Drew and Devyn.

Helen is also survived by her brothers, James, John (Trudy), Billy (Shelly); and her sister, Andrena; Andrena’s two daughters, her special nieces, Maryanne and Barb as well as many other nieces and nephews. 

Helen was predeceased by her parents, William and Margaret Elliot, her loving husband, Irv, her son, Doug and her sister, Mary. 

Helen will be remembered as a friendly and kindhearted mother and friend to all who knew her.  She loved her family and her trips to the casino with Irv and her siblings. 

Special thanks to all the staff at Rotary House where Helen lived for the last number of years and also to the staff at Northern Lights Regional Health Centre for the care they provided.  As Helen wished, there will be no service.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rotary House, Fort McMurray, Alberta.
