Jane Elizabeth Kasapowitsch Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jane Elizabeth (Alexander) Kasapowitsch of Fort McMurray, Alberta, on April 9, 2026, at the age of 74.
Jane was born on October 19, 1951, in Hamilton, Ontario, to her parents Jack and Doris Alexander. She married her high school sweetheart, Tony, on May 19, 1972. Together they raised five beautiful children, and motherhood became Jane’s most cherished and meaningful role.
While raising their family, Jane generously gave her time as a Girl Guide Leader, Sunday School Teacher, babysitter, Tupperware Consultant, educational assistant, and faithful taxi driver for her children.
Jane lived out her love for Jesus, always focusing on the bright side of life. In difficult moments, she often reassured those around her with the words, “This too shall pass.” She shared her love of the outdoors with her children and grandchildren—especially Algonquin Park—and had an incredible talent for cooking or baking over an open campfire. You always knew where Jane was, as she was often humming or singing; she truly had a song for every situation.
A long road trip in 2006 led Jane and Tony to Fort McMurray, where they spent the next 19 years embracing a new adventure. Jane worked as an educational assistant and in various customer services roles, but her favourite role of all was being Grandma. She made friends wherever she went—no one was ever a stranger.
Jane retired to enjoy a life devoted to caring for others, visiting her grandchildren, and exploring the world with those she loved.
She will be dearly missed by her beloved husband, Tony; her children: Cheryl (Howard), Mark (Patricia), Lynn, Laura (Richard), and Paul; her siblings Gord, Don (Linda), Susan (Rick), and Tim (Christina); and her cherished grandchildren Jordyne, Maddison, Alexander, William, and Ava, along with many loved nieces and nephews.
Jane was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Doris, her brother Dave, her sister‑in‑law Care, and her nephew David.
Jane’s warmth and love will live on in all who knew her.
A private family gathering has been held in Fort McMurray. A visitation celebrating Jane’s life will take place on Sunday, April 19, 2:00 p.m. at Fort City Church. At a later date, an outdoor Celebration of Life will be held in Hamilton, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
The family thanks you for your thoughts, prayers, and care during this time. Please add your most cherished memories and photos of Jane.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 11, 2026 at 1:00pm at the Royal Canadian Legion in Hamilton, Ontario, 435 Limeridge Rd E, Hamilton, ON L9A 2S8.
