It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cowboy Joe, Joseph Wanderingspirit nee: Pamatchakwew on Tuesday June 22, 2026 at his home in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta.

Joe will be remembered for his kind spirit and love of the land. You’d often find him out fishing on the river or on the trap line. Joe lived most of his life off the land.

In his youth he worked seasonally for Forestry as a fire fighter. He also worked as a labourer at a sawmill.

Joe will be lovingly remembered by his many adopted children, siblings, nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.

He will be reunited with his parents, Madeline Wanderingspirit and Pamatchakwew, as well as friends and loved ones who have passed before him.
