Ramona MORRISON, age 81, of Fort McMurray, Alberta, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2022, at Northern Lights Regional Health Center, in Fort McMurray.

Ramona (Mona) was born in New Waterford, Nova Scotia and after school, travelled to Boston, Massachusetts, where she worked, first as a Nanny and later for RCA electronics. She married, had three wonderful children, and lived in Baddeck, Nova Scotia, Fort McMurray, Alberta and Kelowna, B.C. Apart from her family, her proudest accomplishment was Smitty’s Family Restaurant, which became a gathering place for so many over the years.

Throughout her life, Ramona enjoyed serving her communities, socializing with friends, raising her children and spoiling her grandchildren. Ramona organized, promoted and supported numerous organizations, including Waypoints, Kids Forever, Northern Lights Health Foundation, Royal Canadian Legion, and many other nonprofit organizations and events. Throughout her years in Fort McMurray, she received countless awards and recognition for her service, dedication and work in the community.

Left to mourn Ramona are her brother Russell (Gail) MacNeil, Langford B.C.; son JC (Cal) and wife, Shelley of Fort McMurray; daughter Ann (Turner) and husband, Mark, of Kelowna, B.C.; son Aaron and wife, Tanya of Fort McMurray; grandchildren, Evan, Sara, Kenslie, Riley, Taylor and Brianna; her former husband, Calvin (Kelowna) and her dear friends Michelle, Robyn and Gavin Paczosa (Colorado). She will also be missed by her extended family, nieces, nephews and many close friends.

Ramona’s family would like to express sincere gratitude to the Physicians and staff at the Northern Lights Regional Health Center (3rd-floor medicine & dialysis) Cross Cancer Center and the U of A Hospital for providing such genuine care during her medical treatments. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Kidney Foundation and/or Waypoints (Wood Buffalo).

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, December 15th, 2022, at 1:00 PM at the Royal Canadian Legion at 9317 Huggard Street in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Please wear casual attire.
