Obituary of Violet Ellen Hansen

Violet (Vi) Hansen, a long-time resident of Fort McMurray, AB, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on the evening of Thursday, October 22, 2020 at the age of 93. Vi is survived by her children; Lester (Sue) Flett, Edward Mctavish, Peter (Judy) Hansen, Nina (Eldon) Scilley, Lauretta (Bob) Mattson, Leonard (Charlene) Hansen (Michelle Hansen), and Allen (Kelly) Hansen. She is survived by her brothers; Sonny, Gordon, and Andy Flett, along with her sister; Lila Ward. She leaves to mourn many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Vi is predeceased by her husband Lloyd Hansen, parents; Jenny and Edward Flett, and sisters; Daisy Woodward, Janet Tralnberg, Jessie Clark, and her grand-daughter; Jody Hansen. Vi was born in Fort Chipewyan on August 17, 1927, to Jenny and Edward Flett. She grew up there, often helping her dad and brother, Sonny, on the trapline. At home, she was a great help to her mother; the local midwife and always doing chores around the home. Vi was an active member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed her curling, especially her Bingo! She was very proud of her Métis heritage and was an active member of the McMurray Métis Local 1935.
