Obituary of Elsie Cardinal

Please share a memory of Elsie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
March 14, 1935 - January 24, 2022 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we are saying goodbye to a very special lady. A mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Elsie Cardinal. Elsie was born just outside of Conklin, on March 14, 1935, where she was one of ten children born to Annie and George Cardinal. She spent many of her years in Fort McMurray, from raising her 5 children there and then moving back to spend her senior years in the place she always called home. Throughout her life, Elsie held different titles in the hotel business. At one time she was employed with Alberta Newstart, Alberta Vocational Centre then Keyano College. Elsie was dedicated and took pride in all her work. Elsie was predeceased by her common-law husband of many years, Glen, and her two sons, Michael and Murray along with their father Walter, her parents Annie and George as well as sisters Eva, Margaret, Agnes, and brothers Archie, Eddy, and Abe. She leaves behind so many people that will miss her; Her sons Matthew (Carole) and Kenneth, and daughter Marlene (John), granddaughters Amanda (Chris), Candice (Steve), Jo-Anna (Glenn), Christine (Tylor), and Ashly (Lucas) and her one and only grandson Michael, along with great-grandchildren Taygen, Rachel, Brandon, Amelia, Thomas, Mark, Patrick, Amelia, and Violet, countless nieces, nephews, and her one brother Dan (Kathie) and two sisters, Elise and Betty. Elsie liked to keep her hands busy. Whether it was sewing or crocheting, picking berries, kneading bannock, or dabbing bingo cards, she was always up to something. And most of those tasks came with another one of her favorite things, giving her wonderful handmade goods to those she loved so much. Her gifts were always a blessing to receive, and her bannock was out of this world! Elsie was a proud Métis woman, always willing to share her knowledge and lend a hand to anyone that needed it. She was very social and loved being a part of the Métis community and would often be seen proudly wearing something to show her Métis heritage anytime she went out. Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. Respecting our mother's wishes, cremation and interment will take place at the downtown cemetery in Fort McMurray.
