Obituary of Cory Adam Dakin

Please share a memory of Cory to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that the family of Cory Adam Dakin announce his passing on June 4, 2022, at the age of 40 years. He is survived by his loving wife Desirée, their three children, Ethan, Arianna and Flynn. His parents Colin and Teresa Dakin, his brother Travis (Allison), his nieces and nephews: Abigail, Paige, Fletcher, Maxx and Ella, and a large circle of family of friends. Cory is predeceased by his son Holden, his grandparents Leo-Paul and Valerie Dakin, and Grace and John Stephenson. Cory was born in Fort McMurray on February 14, 1982. He graduated from Westwood High School in 1999 and began his career in the oilsands industry shortly after. He married his high school sweetheart Desirée in 2002, and had the first of his beloved children in 2003. His greatest pride was the family and home that he built in Fort McMurray. Cory was an avid sports fan, and passionately cheered on his favorite teams, the Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Blue Jays and the Denver Broncos. Some of Cory’s happiest times were spent on vacations with his friends and family, especially the times spent on Disney vacations with his wife and children. He treasured his time spent golfing with his dad, brother and close friends. He loved the evenings spent laughing with his dearest friends over a game of darts, board games, or belting out some songs. He will forever be remembered for his quick wit and sarcastic sense of humor. Those that knew him best knew how incredibly intelligent he was and what a loving and generous heart lay inside that stubborn and tough exterior. He will be much loved and missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held on July 15, 2022 at 4:00pm at the Quality Inn Hotel in Fort McMurray, Alberta, followed immediately by a Celebration of Cory’s life. Guests are welcome to wear sports jerseys, team colours or gear from Cory’s favourite teams in his honour. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in support of mental health, or contributing to Cory’s children’s education funds. Contributions to the children can be made via email money transfer to dakinmemorial@gmail.com or by contacting the children’s grandmother, Jo-Ann Collins.
