It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Olivia Mary Roberts on January 16, 2023. Olivia was a source of energy, filled to the brim with fun, kindness and love, wrapped up with a bow of humour. Although Fort McMurray has been her second home for the last 50 years, her first home and birthplace was the historic town of Placentia, Newfoundland, where she grew up with her sisters: Annette, Marian and Cathy.
She graduated from St. Clare’s School of Nursing in St. John’s, NL and then in Public Health Nursing from Dalhousie in Nova Scotia. For many years she dedicated her time as a public nurse in Fort McMurray; however, her greatest dedication was to her son Nick, his wife Teri-Lynn and her mother Jeanne, and her wonderful grandchildren Briar and Hendrix.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Roberts, son of Harry & Dorothy Roberts of Newfoundland, her parents, Nicholas and Vera (O’Leary) Greene of Newfoundland, her sister Dr. Marian Greene of St. John’s Newfoundland, and recently her brother-in-law, Brian Gaskell of Cape Breton Nova Scotia. She will be greatly missed by her sisters, Annette Gaskell (Brian, deceased) and Cathy Greene (Joe) and her nieces and nephews: Nicole Gaskell (Tim) & family, Michael Gaskell & family, Katie Macdonald (Jon) & family, Julie Macdonald (Mark) & family and Jake Macdonald.
Her friends are too many to list but there is a special group of Newfoundlanders here in Fort McMurray who deserve a huge Thank You for their support, fundraising, and their all-around support given to Olivia, her son Nick, and his family. Thank you so much - it will not be forgotten.
Cremation has taken place as per her request.
A Celebration of Life will take place in June in Fort McMurray. Details will be updated when determined.
