Obituary of Maria Jose Furtado

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Jose Furtado (Zeca), age 61 years, of Fort McMurray, Alberta. Maria passed away at home on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.

She was born on December 21, 1961 in Azores, Portugal, to Urbano and Maria Furtado. Maria earned her LPN Nursing Degree from Norquest College and dedicated her life to caring for others. She was a kind-hearted and gentle person who brought joy to everyone who knew her. She had a love for crafts, music, baking, cooking and nature. She enjoyed sitting and listening to the birds while watching the water rush by. Her family and friends will always remember her for her warm smile, her generosity and her unwavering love.

Maria is survived by her daughter Cindy Medeiros-Connors; son-in-law Steven Connors; and her granddaughter Ciara Connors. She is also survived by her sisters Irene (Maria) Correia, Anna Almeida and Goretti Istace; her brothers Tony and Joey Furtado; nephews: Edwin Correia, Nicholas & Lucas Istace and Marco Furtado; nieces: Amy Almeida, Karen Correia and Maria Furtado.

Maria was predeceased by her parents Urbano and Maria Furtado, her grandson Marcus, and her nephews Anthony Almeida and Kevin Correia.

As per her wishes, cremation has already taken place and no formal services will take place.

A Celebration of Life will be held for her family and friends at a later date.

Maria will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her legacy of kindness and love will live on forever.
