Obituary of Travis David Scantland

Travis David Scantland of Fort McMurray, Alberta passed away at the age of 54 on December 23, 2023 surrounded by family at the Fort McMurray Regional Health Centre after a courageous battle with cancer.

 

He was born on September 19,1969 to Joyce and Denis Scantland in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

 

Travis grew up and attended school in Elkford, British Columbia. He served 3 Years in the Canadian Navy aboard HMCS Huron DDG 281 and HMCS Yukon DDE 263 traveling the world, his favourite docking being Russia.

 

Travis married Cindy, the love of his life, on July 15, 2000. They had 4 children, Jessica, Chelsea, Joshua and Amanda, and resided in Fort McMurray for the past 32 years making it

their loving home.

 

Starting in the Elk Valley, he began his career as a heavy equipment operator and finished in the oil sands as a highly skilled and respected Shovel Operator at Suncor making some amazing friends along the way.

 

He was an avid traveler, motorcyclist, concert goer, and fisherman who loved anything to do with the ocean. His favourite place to spend his time was at his lake lot on Lac La Biche Lake surrounded by friends, family, and his two dogs Joey and Jersey.

 

His love for travel originated in his time in the Navy which led to many family vacations to places such as Maui, Mexico, Cuba, New York, California, and more. His favourite way to get around was his motorcycle on which he would spend weeks riding around Canada and the USA with his friends and son.

 

Travis was known for his amazing smile, generosity, wittiness, selflessness, and kind heart.

 

Travis will continue to live on through his loving wife, Cindy; children, Jessica (Nick), Chelsea (Chris), Joshua (Danielle), Amanda (Josh); grandchildren, Kyle, Tyler, Kayla; parents, Joyce and Denis Scantland; siblings, Wanda (Rob); brother-in-law, Rob (Chantelle), as well as various nephews, nieces, extended family members and his countless lifelong friends who have become family.

 

In lieu of flowers, family would appreciate donations made to the Jeremy Snook Hospice Foundation the Fort McMurray Cancer Centre through the Northern Lights Health Foundation.
