Peter was a part of our lives for over 45 years and a very good friend to Ron . He enhanced our lives tremendously through his thoughtful visits on Wood Buffalo Way and at the cottage . Tea was served along with a sweet snack . They always had a lot to talk about because they had shared so many experiences together . From long distance snowmobiling over 3 provinces & Yukon Territories , to bike trips , boating trips , trapline trips and fishing trips . On one of these trips Peter is known to have potentially saved Harry’s life because of his observant self. He always knew what was going on around him.
Peter wouldn’t miss Ron’s yearly birthday bonfire gathering , as he loved to sit around a campfire and that was just the kinda guy he was . He was there for his friends . Once he showed up with a Ladder Toss game that he had made for our 5th wheel. He figured we needed something to do while we were camping . We have used it lots with our family and grandchildren . It will be forever cherished.
Peter and Ron also worked together on helping to build the Little League Park and hosting major provincial & national tournament in the early 1990’s . They consequently shared Blue Jay stories till the end.
In recent years due to his role with the Metis Local they often talked politics , which was another shared interest and they pretty well agreed with each other’s points of view so it was a safe topic.
But it was during Ron’s battle with leukemia that their friendship really showed through . Peter was in constant contact with Ron via phone calls , keeping him up to date on the latest happenings in Ft McMurray . You dear Judy, gave Ron a blue fleece blanket that he still uses to this day and your words of encouragement & prayers helped to keep us going beyond measure .
The promised land is now a better place with him there, but our world is not. RIP Peter. You will be missed.
Love & Hugs, Colette & Ron

I will never forget meeting Peter at the ATC festival several years ago. I was set up doing an art demo but I also had my “Carried With Love” painting at the show. Kelly introduced me to Peter. We spoke about the message in the painting and the importance of awareness for residential schools.
I remember sensing Peter’s kindness, his humbleness and genuine personality immediately. He was very approachable and inviting which is wonderful coming from a great man in leadership. I always felt welcome which has been so important to me as an Indigenous person who moved to the area. I loved sharing some of my story with Peter and I’m so grateful to have learned some of his over the last several years. I’ve enjoyed my time with the Métis community here in Fort McMurray and I am so grateful to have met Peter and Judy along with their family. It is my honour to have met such an amazing soul, a leader, always committed to doing good in our community. A man of the land and water, and a wonderful family man.
Peter, I will always remember you. Until we all meet again, may you rest peacefully my friend!

I worked with Peter at Syncrude, Security & Site Services. I was new to the dept. and felt totally out of my element as I had transferred from a dept. I had been in for 18 years. The work, the people, the place was all not w to me…. Peter introduced himself right away and said if I ever needed any help or information that he’d be happy to help! We worked in the dept. together for eight years. He was the best mentor anyone could ask for!!!
We did a road trip together to Goodfish Lake to visit a vendor. What fun we had!! He offered to drive us as we hadn’t been before. Lots of laughs along the way!
I will miss him!!! He was a great friend & mentor!

My family and I feel blessed to have moved across the street from Peter and Judy. I always enjoyed our conversations when Peter would come over to chat. He was a good man that I admired. My sons have great memories of Peter stopping by with ice cream bars and treats just to see a smile on the neighborhood kids faces. My boys would say he’s like a Grandpa. lol. Peter was a man that made you feel at ease when you spoke to him, and that he truly cared about what you had to say. I wish I would have had more opportunities to hear more of his stories of trapping, hunting and fishing. One day I look forward to seeing Peter again and hearing the rest of those stories. My heart goes out to Judy and the rest of the Hansen Family and Friends. Rest easy my friend.

Judy, Emily, Jonathan and family: I was shocked and saddened to hear of Peter's passing; not only a family man, a friend to all and very generous and caring. It was the same at Syncrude as I always knew Peter would come through with whatever was needed and the job was done effectively and efficiently no matter how busy Peter and his staff were. Peter will be with Jodi for her birthday. He will still be taking care of all of you and you will feel his presence every day. God bless and love, Sharon Elliott

To Peter's family and friends
I considered Peter to be my best friend while living in Fort Mac. We traveled many miles together on sled trips and hunting trips. Had lots of fun and exploration. He was always a gentleman. Fix a few furnaces for him, his family and his or Judy's friends. We had many meals together. One stands out to me because Peter only liked certain things, but this one time they were at our house for a roast beef dinner. Well Peter didn't like garlic nor sour cream. My mashed potatoes that day was loaded with grarlic cloves cooked and mashed into the potatoes along with lots of sour cream. He Loved it and had seconds of everything. We felt it was best to be quite about it since he enjoyed it so much.
He was so close that at one point we considered doing a business together, but all the details didn't come together.
One thing I always wished for that He didn't get to do was a trip back to Newfie with me so we could enjoy some of my place and things that we have enjoyed in our retirement. Peter was and is a very special man, now in my memories.
See you again my Bro. In heaven.
Love you and your family lots.God bless you all.

It is with great sadness and disbelief that Peter has left us . Norm talked to him the day of his passing. He sounded great or so he thought. Being the humble man he was he never made it about him or did or say anything to bring attention to himself. A true Fort McMurray gem.
Peter became a partner in our Rimfire Solutions company in 2016. When he dropped in at the McMurray Coin shop or Culligan water plant there was true mutual respect between Peter and the staff.
The staff was equally saddened by the news of his passing.
You left everyone who knew you with memories of friendship, dedication to your causes, your community involvement, your mentorship and fond memories of how you touched our lives in different ways. You impressed 2 of our grandson with a gift of a handy pocket gurber multi tool that they can use in the woods etc. They have not forgotten you. They each picked up the phone and called Norm with condolences for losing yet another friend.
When I , Jeanine would greet you as Peter Handsome you would humbly smile and say, no just Peter Hansen.
Peter, to quote Vince Gills song “go rest high up on the mountain. Your work on earth is done. “ Your memory will live on for years to come.
Our deepest condolences to Judy and your family from Jeanine, Norm and our family

Uncle Pete, you were such a kind soul and loving dad. I remember your famous fried rice and chicken dinners, camping out at Gregoire with you, Jodi and Kerry and your weakness for buying Jodi anything made in Canada :) You will be so missed.
