Jane Ann Stroud Obituary

It is with a great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Jane Ann Stroud, of Fort McMurray, Alberta on August 10, 2024.

Jane was born in September of 1947 in Fort McMurray, Alberta to her parents Hugh and Joan Stroud. She grew up in Fort McMurray, often participating in various sports, and following in her fathers footsteps volunteering in different areas of the community.

Jane ventured to pursue her education at Athabasca University. It was here where she completed a degree in Business Administration. She would later use this degree to pursue her own book keeping business.

Jane aspired for great things in life. Once again following in her fathers footsteps, she ran for City Councillor in 2010, a position which she would hold for many years. She was a steward to the community, always looking out for her fellow Fort McMurrites.

Outside of education and career accomplishments Jane also built a beautiful loving family in Fort McMurray. She has two children who she loved dearly. When they were young she’d coach them in Baseball a sport she once enjoyed playing as well. She was a devoted mother who was always their to support her kids and encouraged them to pursue their dreams as well.

Jane never outgrew her love of sports and competitive spirit. Through her life you would most likely find her on the golf course, a baseball diamond, or in the curling rink. She also loved to travel. Her favorite place to visit was Hawaii. After a long day of traveling or of being out on the course she’d come home and settle in with a lovely cup of tea to end the day.

She is survived by her children, Gordon (Melanie) Agnew, and Kim Agnew (Josh Kern); sisters, Samanth Stone and Pamela Stroud; grandchildren, Adriana Agnew, Kiera Agnew, and Liam Agnew; great-grandchildren, Melody Agnew, and Parker Agnew; nieces, Jody Fraser and Diane Angelopoulos; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

Jane is predeceased by her parents, Hugh and Joan Stroud; brother, Ron Stroud; and sister, Maureen Lee.

Jane was an incredible mother, amazing friend and dedicated councillor. She was the most compassionate and accepting woman you’d ever meet. Jane was a pillar of the community, her presence will be missed beyond measure.

Jane's Funeral Service will be live-streamed on August, 26th 2024 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m.
