It is with great sadness that the family of Dennis Downey of Baie Verte, NL. announce his passing on September 10, 2024, at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray, AB, at the age of 57 years.

Dennis moved to Fort McMurray, AB. in 2010 with his wife Maxine, where he worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator in the oilsands industry. He worked in construction and various other professions during his life, but his passion was carpentry. He was a jack of all trades and enjoyed working on different projects.

Dennis will always be remembered for his sense of humor. He loved a good joke and pulling pranks on his family and friends. There was never a dull moment when he was around. He was loving, kind, giving and always there to lend a helping hand. He loved the outdoors, especially spending time at the campground with his wife and a close circle of friends.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Maxine; his step-children: Kyle (Amy), Amanda (Frankie) and Troy (Christina); brothers: Derm, Pat (Loriann), Jason (Jennie), and Peter (Melanie); sisters: Joanne (Craig) and Madonna (Marshall); grandchildren: Lucas, Allie & Logan; as well as special nieces and nephews, and a large circle of family and friends.

Dennis is predeceased by his parents: Andrew & Evangeline Downey; sister: Sarah Downey; niece: Brittany and grandparents: Francis & Sarah Downey and Peter and Mary Jones.

In accordance with Dennis’s wishes, cremation has already taken place. A private family service will be held in Newfoundland at a later date. The family requests that donations in Dennis’s memory be made to the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, AB. or to your local SPCA.
