Obituary of Geraldine Bessie Decker
It is with so many heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mom and nanny, Geraldine Bessie Decker, on November 24, 2024. Geraldine passed peacefully surrounded by family at Willow Square Continuing Care Centre, Fort McMurray, AB.
Geraldine was born in Woodstock, Newfoundland, on January 18, 1939, to Dorman and Hermenia Sacrey. Her father, being a United Church Minister, brought her family all over Newfoundland during her childhood. They lived in many little communities and met many people all over the province. Geraldine was also very proud of her indigenous heritage as her mom was Inuit from Labrador.
She wore many hats throughout her life but none more important than that of mother and grandmother. Geraldine loved fiercely and unconditionally. After meeting Roy in 1966, they raised a beautiful family of 4 children together. The love that her and Roy shared was unbreakable. Those 4 children gave her 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, and she loved every one of them dearly. Nothing made her happier than taking care of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. From picnics and games to berry picking and swimming, Geraldine always found time to spend with her family.
If there is anything that came close to being as important as her family, it would be her love of adventure. The adventures she shared with her family were priceless. Well into her senior years she kept exploring bringing her to places like Mexico, Dominican Republic and on road trips across Canada and Alberta taking her to Canada’s Wonderland, Jasper, Banff and many other exciting journeys.
Geraldine spent the last few years of her life in Willow Square Continuing Care Centre where she continued to find the adventure in every day and brighten any room she was in. Geraldine will truly be missed for her unwavering, unconditional love and her personality that could brighten any room. She continued to make people laugh every day and enjoyed many visits from family and friends. We are forever grateful for the wonderful teams at Willow Square that took such great care of her for her final years.
Geraldine was predeceased by her loving parents, her husband, her son Terence Decker and daughter, Beverly Decker. Waiting with open arms were also her siblings: Gerald Sacrey, Pleamon Sacrey, Eileen Regular, Viola Decker, Joe Sacrey, and Edna Fleming, as well as many other close friends and family.
Left with many fond memories are her brother, Zachary Sacrey (Kay Sacrey) and her sisters: Olive Newbury and Maxine Decker (Gary Decker); her daughters: Kelly Pizzey (Ian Pizzey) and Debbie Michaels (Gerry Michaels); Granddaughters: Nichole Decker (Grant Decker), Noelle Sheppard (Randy Sheppard), Samantha Haas (Antonio Triumbari), Natasha Johnson (Logan Johnson) and Shayla Decker (Jayden Kormish); Grandsons: Dustin Nicholas (Angel Payne), Ian Newman (Zaren Newman), Tyler Decker (Kirstyn Holmstrom), Dillon Nicholas, Kyle Decker (Ashleigh Willcox), Jonathan Michaels (Sydney Michaels) and Brandon Michaels; Great Grandchildren: Kalem Decker, Jake Sheppard, Kailee Decker, Taaliyah Decker, Abbie Sheppard, Tony Triumbari, Octavia Triumbari, Lexi Triumbari, Austyn Michaels, Alex Johnson, Maverick Newman and Jaxx Johnson, as well as many more nieces, nephews, friends and family.
As per Geraldine’s wishes, she was cremated and in time will be laid to rest with her husband in Woodstock, Newfoundland.
