It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Wanda Mary Drake.

Wanda passed away peacefully at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray, surrounded by her children.

Wanda was a beloved grandmother to 5 beautiful grandchildren whom she loved more than life itself. She fought a courageous battle against cancer for the last 3 years, never letting any treatment break her spirit. She was originally from Newfoundland but called Fort McMurray her home for the last 6 years. Befriending her neighbours and anyone she met along the way; always willing to give a helping hand to anyone who needed it.

Our mother was the most independent person we knew. Always taking care of everyone around her and never leaving a task undone. She will forever be missed by all that knew her. The last few months were incredibly tough for her with her health declining. Even during some of her darkest days, the nurses, staff and patients helped keep her spirits up.

To the staff of Northern Lights Regional Health centre 3rd floor medicine: Our mother loved you. She looked forward to seeing you everyday and appreciated absolutely everything that you did for her! She had the utmost appreciation for your hard work and dedication.

Revelation 21:4: "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
