Obituary of Gerald Hubert White

Please share a memory of Gerald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerald Hubert White of Indian Bay, Newfoundland, at the age of 84. He passed away peacefully at the Northern Lights Regional Heath Centre surrounded by his family in Fort McMurray, Alberta, on December 25, 2024.

Gerald was born on March 10, 1940, in Safe Harbour, Newfoundland, and had many fond memories of growing up on the plant in Indian Bay.

On September 29, 1961, Gerald married the love of his life, Margaret Parsons of Indian Bay, and she was by his side up to his passing.

In 1981, Gerald and Marg moved to Fort McMurray where he began a career as a conveyor belt walker at Suncor Energy. He was a hard worker, receiving recognition from the company for his work. In 1986, they returned to Newfoundland due to Gerald’s health condition and he underwent a quadruple heart bypass surgery that year. Gerald and Marg lived in Newfoundland ever since.

Gerald had a strong connection to his Newfoundland roots, and he was an avid animal lover; horses held a special place in his heart. He loved a good ol’ fashioned kitchen party and enjoyed entertaining everyone with his wooden dancing man, “me little man”, as he called it. He was a great story-teller and often laughed at his own jokes and stories as much as anyone else did.

Gerald will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Margaret White; children: Phyllis Yetman (Bruce), Dean White (Dale Wareham - deceased), Darrell White (Sharon), Amanda McCulloch, and Bryon White (Sonya); a large circle of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his beloved brother, Emerson White (Velma); and sisters: Classie Squires (Edward) and Peggy Knott (James - deceased); many nieces and nephews, and good friends.

Gerald was predeceased by his parents, Minnie and Ronald White; two brothers: Claude White and Lloyd White (Suzanne - surviving) and one sister, Genevieve Kennedy (Kevin - deceased).

A memorial service will be held in the summer of 2025 in Newfoundland. Donations can be made in Gerald’s memory to the family to be disbursed at a later date.
