Obituary of Gordon Alexander MacDonald
Gordie, a man who lived his life with the kind of gusto that would put a hurricane to shame, left us with a treasure trove of laughter and memories on December 24, 2024. Born on June 15, 1964, in Fort McMurray, he was a true son of the North, a man whose heart was as wide and open as the Alberta sky under which he was born and passed away.
A loving husband and a father of 4 who could turn any frown upside down, Gordie's legacy includes his children. Each of them inherited his twinkling eyes and that mischievous smile that said, "I'm up to something, and you're going to love it." His family was his pride and joy, and he was the glue that held them together with his boundless energy and creative spirit.
Left to mourn his loss are his loving wife, Barb MacDonald; Daughters: Brandy (Billyjoe) Fitzpatrick and Joanne Powder; Sons: Blake (Natalia) and Brett (Megan) Linnen; Son-in-Law, Randy Grandjambe; His Grandchildren: Noah, Logan, Ari, Cash, Zachary, Jonah, Rayden, Leanne, Audrina, Oliver, Scarlett and Palmer; His Brothers: Frederick and Brent MacDonald; Sisters: Shirley and Janet MacDonald; Many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Gordie was predeceased in this life by his parents, Margaret & Fred MacDonald and his brothers, Roland and Rick MacDonald.
Gordie's education began not in the confines of a classroom but on the trap line with his grandfather, where he learned the kind of lessons that can't be taught with books. He learned the art of listening—to the wind, the animals, and the stories of the land. This early education shaped the man who could build anything, fix everything, and always had a clever solution up his sleeve.
His career was as varied as his interests. A carpenter, a painter, and a handyman, Gordie could turn a pile of wood into a masterpiece, a drab room into a canvas of colors, and any broken gadget into a working marvel again. His hands were as skilled as his mind was sharp, and his work was a testament to his passion for creating and mending; but life wasn't all work for Gordie, he was an avid sports enthusiast, both as a
player and a spectator. Hockey, football, baseball, basketball—you name it, Gordie played it, watched it, and probably had a running commentary that was better than the professionals. His love for the outdoors was equally strong, with hunting, fishing, and boating being the activities where he felt most at home, second only to a sports arena.
Describing Gordie is easy: funny, creative, passionate. He was the kind of guy who could find humor in any situation, a trait that made him the life of every party and the comfort in every sorrow. He lived with a passion that was infectious, and his creativity was a well that never ran dry.
We'll miss Gordie's laughter, his impromptu jokes, and the way he could light up a room just by stepping into it. He was a man who lived life on his own terms, with a twinkle in his eye and a joke on his lips. As we say goodbye, let's do so with a smile, because that's how he would have wanted it.
Gordie, you were one of a kind, and the world is a little less bright without you. But your laughter echoes in our hearts, and that's a legacy that will never fade.
