Obituary of Blanche Priscilla Hodder
It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Blanche Priscilla Hodder on January 7th, 2025, at the age of 65. Blanche passed away peacefully surrounded by her husband and three children.
Blanche was born and raised in Main Point, Newfoundland, to George and Sadie Brinson. She attended and graduated school at the Carmanville School Complex a short distance from her home. Shortly after she graduated High School, she found the love of her life, Gonzel Hodder or her “Shushi” as they lovingly nicknamed each other.
Blanche and Gonzel married on July 31st,1978 and moved to Victoria Cove, Newfoundland where they raised three children together. Blanche was a wonderful, caring and loving Mother who tirelessly put in effort to help her children flourish in the paths they chose. No task was too much for her to take on, to ensure her family was cared for. Blanche was also the grandmother of 4 grandchildren, all of which were instantly precious to her as she affectionately filled her role as their “Nanny!”. While there were often miles between Blanche and her grandchildren, she wasted no opportunity to reach out to encourage, spoil, and pray for her “babies”. They brought her tremendous joy and happiness.
Later in life Blanche and Gonzel moved to Thunder Bay and then to Fort McMurray where Blanche always left an impression on everyone she encountered as a sweet, kind, and caring soul who would do anything to help everyone. Working as a Property Manager in Fort McMurray, she was loved by her staff and tenants due to her ‘above and beyond’ approach. Blanche always did her best for those in her friend and work circle, much like the effort she put into her family, making everyone feel at home.
Blanche is Predeceased by her Father George Brinson.
Leaving to mourn is her Loving Husband Gonzel Hodder who loved her fiercely and never left her side to the very end, Children Morgan (Amber), Rebekah and Cody (Crystal), Grandchildren Brinson, Amelia, Lucas and Cameron, Mother Sadie Brinson and Sisters Donna Brinson, Brenda Wheaton, Roxanne Wheaton and Tammy Brinson. A countless list of extended family and friends are also left to mourn in the wake of her passing.
Special thanks to the Northern Lights Regional Hospital nurses and staff for the help and care she received. Thanks to nieces Holly Knight and Amber Wicks for the help and care they gave to Blanche’s Husband and Children at the hospital and at home during this difficult time. Thanks to Blanche’s wonderful neighbour and friend April Hodder for all the help she gave over the years when Blanche was dealing with her illness at home and during her time at the hospital. Thanks to Darlene Hodder who along with April took it upon themselves to fundraise to help the family during this time. Thanks to Gonzel’s brother, Ricky Hodder, for making the trip from Newfoundland to be with his brother at this difficult time. Thanks to Pastor Brian Bursey and his wife, Brenda, for their support, and many others who sent messages of encouragement and comfort.
A ceremony to celebrate Blanche’s life will be held at a later date at her home church in Newfoundland.
In Loving Memory
