Obituary of Claire Ella Kowalchuk

Please share a memory of Claire to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Claire Kowalchuk of Fort McMurray, Alberta announces her passing after a courageous 2 year battle with ovarian cancer. She was 45 years old. Claire was a beloved wife of Mark and much loved mother to her 2 children Rei and Annelise. She also leaves to mourn her siblings Ron Champagne, Karen Marten, Tania Marten and Thomas Champagne. She is survived by her father-in-law John Kowalchuk, sister-in-law Darlene (Roger) and sister-in-law Mary. She was predeceased by her mother Margaret Champagne, brother-in-law David Kowalchuk, and step-mother-in-law Anne Kowalchuk (Youzwishen). She leaves behind a large extended family dear to her heart and will be lovingly remembered by all of those she leaves behind. Claire was born in Fort McMurray but lived her early years in Fort Chipewyan. The family moved back to Fort McMurray when she was 4 years old where she completed her schooling, married, raised her own family, and remained until her passing. Throughout her lifetime, Claire made many long lasting friendships. She enjoyed sharing laughs with her friends during good times, and they were there to support each other during hard times. Friends and family will remember her love of the outdoors which started at a young age when she would spend time hanging out with her parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and friends. This love of the outdoors continued with her own family. Whether it was walking in the woods, collecting rocks, or making campfire tea, she always found a way to make things fun. Claire had a real compassion for animals, and she received a lot of joy from her pets. It seemed like she was constantly bringing home some new animal. This started at a young age and continued on throughout her lifetime, even during her long battle with cancer. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020 at 10:00 am at St John the Baptist Catholic Parish, Fort McMurray, Alberta.
