Obituary of John Thomas Garrett

Just like how John would tell a story, this obituary is going to be long. It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of John Thomas Garrett on March 3rd, 2021. John passed peacefully with his wife Myra by his side after a long fight with Sarcoidosis and COPD. John was incredibly optimistic. Perhaps the best example of his optimism was his love for the Toronto Maple Leafs. He brought a smile to the face of every person he met. And if you were lucky enough, you got the chance to hear him sing In The Jungle The Mighty Jungle. John had a large family who he loved more than anything. He will be greatly missed by many. His wife and best friend, Myra Garrett. His children Michael, Stephen, Katie (Ken), Kevin, Nicky (Marty), Amy (Jeff), Fran, Tom, Jenelle (Byron), Kira (predeceased), Tianna (Stew), Mariah (Evan), Rikki (Kyle). His grandchildren Tristan (predeceased), Adain (predeceased), Dylan, Katelyn, William, Jesse, Lucas, Liam & David. His siblings Dena, Ed (predeceased), Bill, Karen (predeceased), Kim, Christine, and their families. His brother-in-law Dennis and his family. His longtime friend, Sandi Johnston. He will be missed by his fur baby, Ruby. Predeceased by his parents Neil and Ruth Garrett as well as his Mother and Father-in-law, Clarence and Margaret Rice. Over the past few years, John and his entire family were incredibly grateful for the exceptional care provided by the staff at Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray. In particular, Dr. John O’Connor (who went above and beyond) as well as the Intensive Care Unit, the 3rd and 4th Floor Staff. The family would like to give a special thanks to Suzanne Ricketts and Kaitlyn Ricketts. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Sarcoidosis Organization.
