Obituary of Germain Routhier

On Friday, June 4, 2021, loving husband and father Germain Routhier passed away at the age of 93. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 66 years, Marie and 7 children Denis (Peggy), Carol Fresz (John), Robert (Monique), Leonard (Bonnie), Elaine Carter (Terry), Richard (Renee) and Monica Bailey (Ian); 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; sisters Aline, Mariette and Solange; 6 sisters-in-law, 3 brothers-in-law and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his parents Bruno and Yvonne Routhier, siblings Yvette, Roland, Eugene, Ramona, Marcel and grandson Adam Routhier. Germain was a long-time parishioner of St. John’s Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was very involved in the Golden Years Society, Alberta 55 plus, Suncor Pioneer Club (Retiree) and a pioneer of Fort McMurray Minor Hockey. The family would like to thank the staff of the 3rd and 4th floors of The Northern Lights Regional Health Center and Dr. Tomy, Dr. O’Connor, Dr. Ibach and Dr. Kreuger. A very special thank you to Father Augustine; for his prayers, support, encouragement, and care for Germain and Marie during Germain’s extended hospitalization and passing. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests donations to the Northern Lights Health Foundation or the Golden Years Society.
