It is with broken hearts that the family of the late John Francis Hynes, of Fort McMurray, AB, formerly of St. Bernard’s-Jacques Fontaine, NL, announce his passing at the age of 67. On December 11th, 2023, John passed away peacefully at the University of Alberta Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

John was born on February 24th, 1956, to Martha and the late Humbert Hynes. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of cherished memories, are his loving and devoted wife of 41 years, Viola; daughters: Melissa (Jamie) and Courteney (Perry); and three treasured grandchildren: Ava, Luke, and Emma whom he loved beyond measure; mother Martha; sisters: Bernetta, Hazel (Don), Madonna (Derm), Kim, and Nadine (Tony); brothers: Joe (Mary), Dave, Peter (Catherine), Wade (Deidre), and Kirk; sisters-in-law: Jessica, Carmel (Ed), and Hazel (Darrell); brothers-in-law: Frank (Bertha), Tony (Kelly), and Wally; plus a large circle of extended family and friends.

John was predeceased by his father Humbert; brothers: Tom, Ralph, Harold, and Ron; parents-in-law: Clyde and Phyllis Hodder.

John was a loving husband, devoted father, and remarkable Papa. He was a patient and humble man who prided himself on hard work and family. Those that knew him called him a Jack of All Trades. There was nothing he couldn’t repair, fix, or build, from houses to dance props and everything in between. When John was completing a project, one was sure it was meticulous. For the past 25 years, John lived, and was employed as a Pipefitter in Fort McMurray. He was a valuable and extraordinary mentor, for all that have trained and worked with him. He was a man of few words and carried everything with him as deep as the ocean. He loved to travel, spend time at North Buck Lake and enjoy the little things in life; but his absolute greatest joy was to spend time with his three precious grandchildren, who loved and adored him.

In honoring John's wishes, cremation has taken place.
