Roddie you brought Joy to all of us.The Bird family. Lila told the story of my older brother Billy going in the shed and crying every time Momma had another girl. She would say to you " its ok Billy l'll be your brother. And there was 5 baby girls born before you. Roddie l will miss our talks and our visits, with freshly baked buns and Adison running around. How much you loved cereal as a boy. How much you loved the river, How much you loved your family. Love the words to this Prsise song Some glad morning when this life is over, I'll fly away to a home on God's Celestial shore, I'll fly away!!

There are so many memories of Rod and me being friends, working together, during our younger years going to school, hunting. fishing. horse backriding (we will not go there ), Cat skinning together in remote areas of northeastern Alberta for road building. airstrips, oil field exploration, all good laughs and good times . One could almost write a book on our episodes. I will miss him and never forget him, that is for sure ! Rest now my dear friend, I will meet with you some day again in the happy hunting grounds. Your Dear Friend Torchy. Damn, I'm going to miss you at coffee at the Snye Point in the mornings. ps; don't listen to Duane Brooks.

Roddy Bird, oh my so much to say.
I first met Rod at the Snye. Rod and his buddies met at the Snye on a daily basis for coffee and a chat. I was always there but parked off to myself. One morning I decided to meet these people so I did. Upon chatting with Rod and him mentioning Cliss, a name that I knew from many years ago back in Newfoundland, I discovered that I worked with her at the hotel.
From there a strong friendship developed with Rod and myself.
Our morning meeting always involved lots of laughs and a history lesson about Fort Mcmurray. I enjoyed every moment that I spent with Rod.
I had surgery and could not drive and the dear friend the Rod was would come from Waterways to Gregoire to pick me up in the mornings to go to the Snye.
So what can I say. I will truly miss this wonderful man and I am very happy to say that Rod Bird was my friend. He will be missed by everyone that knew him.
I’m here now sitting at the Snye thinking about all the interesting chats we have had over the years.
So long ole buddy, you will always be in my memories.

Well roddy im not sure whom i could bring into my camp that could terrorize torchy as good as the two of us.
That little glint in your eye , as we watched our handi work set him into a rage, your clever eye shot back to me, as you lit your smoke, that little action that signalled we had driven him into a complete rant.
Then the look of satisfaction of a
Job well done.
Your totally clever overview of life and all
Its disconnects will be missed pal.
Your understanding of nature, the love of your parents, all of that pal i savored .
Your undying friendship to my uncle harold was always a good leason in forgiveness, compassion, understanding,
And fun.
So its alright to pass thru life when u lay out a beautiful path of hard paved stones that your friends, family, and others can walk on, and sometimes take the path unknown for yourself.
Your long connection to your land, to the river, to the early morning sun,
The simplicity of being of the land.
Fly high there buddy.
